Massage and Nutrition

One in every four Americans is a baby boomer, those born from 1946 to 1964. It is the largest population group in the history of the US. As these people were growing up whatever they needed became the company you wanted to be invested in. The toy and baby food industry went crazy, then someone designed the two seater mustang and that took off. Then it was time for the baby boomers to start having kids and SUVs came out. The first of the baby boomers are in their early sixties. They've had it good and they have the luxury of saying 'I don't want to get old' and are spending a lot of money now on exercise and anti-aging products. Today health the wellness industry is the fastest growing market in the world.

Anti-aging and wellness is about protecting your boy against free radicals and about feeding your cells what they need. We’re going to talk about feeding your cells but first a physiology lesson.

The Periodic Table elements constitute all matter. There are approximately one hundred of these. Atoms are the smallest part of an element that retains all the properties of that element and elements are made of only one kind of atom. Atoms of different elements make up molecules; molecules make up cells. A cell is the smallest structural unit of living matter. Cells make up tissues; two or more tissues make up organs; and several organs working together make up the systems that make up our body. These systems are the integumentary system, the nervous system, the endocrine system, the circulatory system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, the urinary system, the reproductive system, the immune system, the lymphatic system, the musculoskeletal system. You have trillions of very busy cells replacing themselves and keeping all of this going. There are things that stand in the way of them getting their job done like not getting enough oxygen, being damaged by trauma, extreme temperature or radiation, chemical agents like carbon monoxide poisoning, electromagnetic pollutants, infectious agents like tapeworms and plagues, immunologic reactions like your own immune system attacking you or an allergic reaction to something, genetic derangements and, what we’re going to talk about, not getting the proper nourishment from what we eat.

Let’s say that you’ve had blood, hair and saliva tests or you're into Traditional Chinese Medicine and the doctor has determined what your body is deficient in. You have looked at your health, personality and preferences, blood type, your lifestyle and maybe you've really gotten into it and read The China Study and you've chosen the type of diet and the foods that suit you. The best place to get our nutrients from is fresh unprocessed foods. However, our soils are so depleted of nutrients that we have not been able to get everything we need from food no matter how carefully we have chosen and prepared our foods. So because of this awareness you add supplements. These are mostly produced in factories. Many of the manufacturers of these supplements take things into consideration like packaging, shelf life and profits so they use synthetic nutrients and fillers. These things have compromised the benefits these products were originally designed to have because they may not be user friendly to the body. Some of the pills have also been compacted too hard or have a coating that doesn’t dissolve very well or and the fillers can get in the way. In order for the body to use vitamins and minerals, they have to be water soluble, a certain size and ionic, all of which the digestive system does to food to make it something cells can take in and use. A company called Eniva (www.eniva.com) has two very inexpensive and very informative CD's that explain how a good supplement is made. Eniva's products are more pure for those who are avoiding food additives, artificial coloring, flavoring. There are preservatives in the drinks that are being made from superfruits brought in from around the world but only what is absolutely necessary in order to take advantage of these amazing foods. Eniva has an excellent liquid vitamin product called Vibe. Our body is not maintained by our food intake, but rather, by what is digested and delivered to our cells. Our digestive systems are not always working as they should especiallas we age or if we have certain conditions or diseases. Vibe being a liquid is so cellular friendly that it enters the body and bypasses the digestive system, not needing to put the stomach, pancreas, intestines, liver to any work, and goes directly to the cells in a matter of seconds. Among a number of its nutritionally unsurpassed ingredients is the acai berry from the Amazon. Genesis Pure (genesispure.com/kwc) offers liquid cell-friendly vitamins and they have on-the-go superfruit drinks (no filers, sugars or preservatives) rather than the ones that only come in large bottles that you have to keep at home in the refrigerator.

Another company with ongoing research is Pharmanex of Nu Skin Enterprises. They have 125 scientists on staff (http://www.pharmanexmd.com/, http://www.nuskinusa.com/). Their vitamins are in capsule form and they have patented technology called nano that is used for the delivery of the carotenoids and Co Q 10 nutrients which normally clump together causing it not to pass through the cell walls well. There are many companies selling superior superfood products. Pharmanex it at the top of the multilevel marketing business because of their incredible technology which is giving the company an edge. They are expecting the introduction of their Biophotonic Scanner and their wrinkle reducing Galvanic to revolutionize the anti-aging industry. The scanner can measure the antioxidant levels in your skin non evasively in 90 seconds and they expect to have it in every health care professional's office in the near future. They also offer a money back guarantee that their vitamins and superfood drink, featuring the Asian fruit gac, the Siberian pineapple, cili, and Chinese Lycium, called G3, "gac superfruit blend with lipocarotenes", will raise the scanner score or your money back. You will notice their products have food additives and their superfood drink has preservatives and that half of the nutrients in their vitamins packs are synthetic. This opens up something quite extraordinary for us purists. They say that they are "using the best of both worlds". They believe that with their technology they have been able to produce synthetic vitamin C along with other vitamins that are more stable and bioavailable than in their natural form. In the developement of their vitamins whenever the synthetic proved to be better, they used the synthetic. East is meeting West. Is there a marriage going on here? If nothing else, we can at least say that they are doing a wonderful thing for the world getting people to take vitamins through a their very successful, very professional marketing. The supplements are in packets you can through in your purse, pocket and luggage. The scanner is very motivating and easy and the supplements are far superior quality to the average supplement in the store. Looking at it this way, the fact that they may have needed to use synthetic to get the vitamins in people's bodies like they have becomes a lesser issue. They are doing something the purists haven't and couldn't.

Looking at aging and disease from the lower vibrational level, the primary cause of these things is the bombardment of free radicals from our toxic environment and processed foods. Free radicals are a normal by product of some of the body's metabolism which the body is able to handle but the body is not able to handle the invasion of our modern dramatic, stressful, polluted and fast food living. When you cut and apple open and leave in the open air, it turns brown. this is a form of oxidation. in our bodies, oxydation is a chemical process resulting in the loss of an electron. A free radical is a destabilized molecule because of the missing electron and when it interacts with our body it steals electrons from healthy cells causing DNA mutations and biological damage. Cancer is a result of oxidation. Cardiovascular diseases are the result of oxydation. Free radicals in the form of environmental toxins, tobacco smoke, transfat molecules, etc., irritate the lining of arteries or blood vessels causing inflammation. In response, the body uses substances including cholesterol to coat and protect the vessel wall. If this process occurs repeatedly, this protective coating becomes arterial plaque and hardens. The damaging process of free radicals is causing repeated injury to cells and tissues. Inflammation is the body's response to cell injury. So the body is receiving more free radicals than it can handle and it is in a constant state of inflammation contributing to cardiovascular and a number of other age related diseases. You can slow aging by increasing anti-inflammatory foods and foods that are high in anti oxidants. There are fruits like blueberries and pomegranates that have a higher amount of antioxidants. There are others that have a lot more than the fruits we are more familiar with. Fruits have been brought in from other countries like the wolfberry (and its cousin the gogi berry) and mangosteen, and we have ventured into the Amazon for the amazing acai berry. These fruits, superfoods, have extraordinary healing properties and are very high in antioxidants that neutralize the free radicals giving them their missing electron. You can find these fruits in bottle juices in your local grocery store but better from some of the independent network marketing companies. Because Eniva is aware of the potency of the acai berry being lost after the first 24 hours, they have structured the manufacturing of Vibe to capture its full potency. Young Living sells essential oils , vitamins, herbs, facial products and also has a wolfberry drink called Ninja Red. Young Living's products are very pure. GoChi (www.freelife.com) is a wolfberry/gogi berry drink that has no preservatives in it (see report below). Xango (www.xango.com) is 100% mangosteen juice. Mona Vie (http://www.monavie.com/) is a highly effective delicious blend of juices featuring the acai berry. You can also order 100% acai products from http://www.amazonthunder.com/. Another source for high quality body friendly supplements is http://www.naturessunshine.com/. Their products are very pure.

As the fastest growing market health and wellness is moving us back to natural medicines away from having to take so many drugs and it's great. Get educated. Take superfood drinks everyday like you take vitamins. Also look into herbs for specific needs. I have had the privilege of having a small independent health food store close by my home that carries the whole line of Nature's Sunshine products. When I was in school I used one of their herbal blends called Focus Attention on the days that I was having a big exam. It worked very well.

So here you’ve done all these great things for the lower vibrational areas. You have found good doctors. Your nutritional doctor had you do fastings or cleanses of toxins and parasites (www.drcolbert.com). You are eating the best foods for yourself and taking excellent cell friendly nutrients. You are getting some sunshine, exercising and having massages, doing the best you can do to keep your circulation doing its job of getting the nutrients delivered to the cells. There is one last consideration before you will stop the effects of being undernourished. Your emotions affect the ability of your cells to take in the nutrients. You need to look at the higher vibrational issues. Your cells have doors called receptors for the nutrients to latch on to but sometimes they aren’t there.

If you haven’t seen the movie What the Bleep Do You Know?, it gives you a great deal of information about a Quantum Physics insight into our lives. It explains the importance of not letting patterns, referred to as addictions, get in the way of creating a better life for yourself. The neurons in our brains form relationships with each other, “a neuronet”, as a pattern of behavior is repeated over and over in our lives. These patterns can even be handed down through our parents DNA and we get so conditioned by them, it's like we go to sleep and someone needs to wake us up to what we are doing. The problem with living this way is when what we are repeating is damaging to us. Neuronets become our comfort zones that we hang on to and letting go hurts because it involves a chemical withdrawal. When a pattern is played out, the emotions attached to it have a corresponding chemical neurohormone that gets released into our body. There are receptors on our cells for these “peptides” that get released from the brain as a result of that pattern being activated. Further damage, besides the results of being in this unhealthy neuronet relationship, is a result of what happens when the cells with the receptors for that peptide reproduce themselves. The new sister cells have more receptors for the peptides than the original cells. Damage to the body occurs because there are only a certain number of receptors on a cell. More receptors for the peptides means less receptors for nutrients and information the cells need to be receiving from the body to function properly. There is a spiraling effect from this out of balance situation. The longer people remain addicted to an unhealthy situation or pattern, the more difficult to go through the chemical withdrawal because of the ever increasing numbers of receptors on the cells hungering for the peptides. Emotions, both good feeling and bad, act just like drugs within the body. They become a chemical addiction complicating lives to the point of a high level of insanity. This explains what is going on in the lives of those on Dr. Phil’s show. If you think about how many of these patterns sabotage old and new relationships, it explains why so many people are alone. It is vitally important to go through a reverie therapy program to shut these self destruct programs down. Psychiatry helps initially. It helps to talk to someone, but then you have to take the steps to organically reprogram your body and get rid of the charges from past problems and trauma in order to have healthy relationships. Psychiatry only deals with the surface like western medicine deals with symtoms. Reverie therapy gets to the root, the cause of the life destroying, happiness inhibiting behavior. Dianetics (Scientology) is reverie therapy. Soul Retrieval (www.fourwinds.com) is reverie therapy. Hypnotherapy and regression therapy are other forms of reverie therapy. Reverie is a state of consciousness where you are fully conscious and moving through painful things and discharging them so that you no longer go through life pulling your past with its emotions into the present and acting out of context or overreacting. Going through these programs will move the energy locked in the past into the present giving you back all your power so you can be all that you can be with a new program where you can create a perfect life for yourself.

So let’s say now that you have the perfect diet with cell friendly nutrients, get your sunshine, do your exercise routine and your life is sane. There’s one more thing you need in order to be well nourished. It’s not enough for you to have a sane life. You need to be happy. It has to be a life of loving relationships ideally with that special person you make the dream life with. Healthy, balanced love peptides need to be released from the brain to go and feed your cells. The founder of the World Research Foundation, Steven Ross, in an interview (http://www.consciousmedianetwork.com/) expands this important step in achieving the dream life with a philosophy he drew from the ancients which he calls LEFL. Adopting this way of life is to surround yourself with beauty and pursue the proper balance of laughter, excitement, fun and love without which the body suffers.

An article about the causes of a brain attack, previously referred to as a stroke, from LiveScience.com listed these two subjects as major contributing factors; being single and being unhappy. "Being Single. If you're a man who'd like to cut his chances of a fatal stroke, get hitched. A Tel Aviv University study of more than 10,000 Israeli men found that those who were married at midlife were 64 percent less likely to die of a stroke during the next 34 years than single men.
...But there's a catch: The marriage has to be a happy one. Men who reported dissatisfying marriages were just as likely to die of a stroke, the researchers reported at the ASA's International Stroke Conference.

"Being Unhappy. Happiness is music to your cardiovascular system. Researchers at the university of Texas Medical Branchin Galveston reported in 2001 the among older individuals, positive moods and attitudes protected against strokes Even incremental increases in happiness helped: For every step up on the researchers' happiness scale, male participants' stroke risk dropped 41 percent. Women's risk dropped 18 percent per happiness unit."

We've talked about love. You've heard that "laughter is the best medicine". Be aware of the thoughts occupying your mind. Make sure they are what you want in there because they are having a huge influence of what you are trying to achieve. As you approach "preventative medicine", don't let the fear of disease be the driving force. After you've done your studying, focus on a vision of knowing that having a life that if something approaching heaven is closer that you have ever thought. This will generate an energy of excitement and fun flowing through you.

Notes:

Find a distributor or doctor with a biophotonic scanner and get your score. Then start on a plan to do everything you can think of like taking a "Berry Green" type green power drink to get your scanner score up. The average American is in the low 20,000's and that is why 1 in 2 are getting cancer. You want to be in the 50,000's. Check out the health ranger, Mike Adams' www.truthpublishing.com. He is full of ideas. It is inspiring!

Look to replace all the junk you're eating. An excellent all natural, highly nutritional meal replacement (if you are taking Ensure or one of the others that are high in sugar and loaded with artificial additives) is Rice and Shine (www.itvventures.com/cats or Carol at 866-487-4148). It is available in chocolate and vanilla with enhanced sweetening from three natural sweeteners or the original has just the sweetening of the rice itself.

The Lluvia Skin Renewal System is made from pure natural ingredients and essential oils. It's up for debate but Kevin Trudeau says 'if you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin.' If this is your thing, this system is available from Amazon Herb Co., http://www.amazonherb.net/. Chocolate is up for debate too like eating meat and dairy but be sure and check out their organic chocolate infused with 11 powerful rainforest botanicals inspired by the Mayans and Aztecs. They also have wonderful herbal concoctions to raise your score.

These five articles are very helpful for understanding what is happening to your body when it gets a disease and how you can change your diet to prevent things like cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Anti-inflammatory Food List

This article provides a list of anti-inflammatory foods and allows you to learn how to not let inflammation stall your weight loss.

What is inflammation?

Inflammation is the first response of the immune system to infection or irritation. We are all familiar with the classic signs of inflammation (swelling, redness and pain) that occur when we hurt ourselves or have some kind of infection. However recent research has shown that eating the wrong foods can cause inflammation within our bodies. In fact being overweight can itself be the cause of inflammation.

Body fat causes inflammation

The fatty tissues of the body secrete hormones that regulate the immune system and inflammation, but in the case of an overweight individual this can become out of control. Three of the hormones that play a role in metabolism are leptin, resistin and adiponectin.

Leptin is involved in appetite control.
Resistin is a hormone that increases insulin resistance.
Adiponectin lowers the blood sugar by making your body more insulin sensitive.

The fact that it is the fatty tissue that produces these hormones makes the fat self regulating, as the hormones should act to bring the increased fat under control. Bodies with more fat will produce more leptin bringing the appetite under control. However in cases where the body is inflamed there is often a problem with leptin resistance, and the self regulation of fat does not occur. Leptin resistance is where the body stops responding to the appetite controlling effects of the hormone.

In addition to these metabolism regulating hormones your fatty tissue also produces chemicals that cause inflammation and this can make the problem of leptin resistance worse. This is why obesity can cause an increase of these inflammatory chemicals which in turn inhibit the correct balancing function of the weight controlling hormones. This results in a vicious circle of weight gain causing inflammation which inhibits hormone function thereby causing further weight gain.

Food and inflammation

Another major cause of inflammation in our bodies is the food we eat. Inflammation can be aggravated by diets high in refined or hydrogenated vegetable oils such as those found in margarines, potato chips and baked goods and by diets high in sugars. But food can also be part of the solution to the problem of inflammation.
Anti-inflammatory foods, if eaten regularly, can reduce inflammation in the body and bring the problem under control. This page contains a list of anti-inflammatory foods that if incorporated into your regular diet will help bring a balance to inflammation in your body. Try and feature some kind of anti-inflammatory food into every meal that you eat, and eliminate pro-inflammatory foods from your diet all together. People who have done this often describe noticable relief from previous discomforts and a greater ability to control their weight.
Please also remember that exercise is one of the greatest ways to counter inflammation.

Anti-inflammatory Foods for Diabetic Control

Written by Toma Grubb
Friday, 22 February 2008

A diet to control diabetes is being shown to help treat or prevent a wide variety of chronic diseases that are plaguing us in ever growing numbers. Another way to look at our food choices is from the angle of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods. Is this different than what we have been recommending for three years? Considering foods from their impact on inflammation is just a different way to achieve the same end we are trying to accomplish with Low Glycemic foods, a proper protein, Carbohydrate and fat balance, and all the other things we talk about on this site. They are slightly different approaches to controlling type 2 diabetes but you will see a lot of commonality in the different ways they are presented and they are all working toward the same end. Here on Diabetic-Diet-Secrets.com we are looking for anything and everything that will help us maintain better blood glucose control.
Diet and life style defiantly impacts our risks for type 2 diabetes. New research released within the past 5 years is saying it is not just type 2 diabetes that is affected by diet. Type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, obesity; cancer, heart disease, stroke, Parkinson's, and rheumatoid arthritis and several others all have this dietary link in common. Ground-breaking research indicates that they may all begin with an inflammatory process.
Inflammation is the body's first line of defense against harmful invaders such as unwanted bacteria, viruses, and a multitude of other nasty critters. The inflammatory process has several soldiers in the form of white blood cells that act as protecting agents when the body is attacked.
Although this process is critical in maintaining the balance of health, researchers and scientists have now demonstrated that problems occur when the inflammatory process becomes chronic and no longer switches "off." In fact, some studies now indicate that inflammation may be the platform on which several disease processes begin.

Not Always Obvious

Unfortunately, the North American diet and lifestyle (which includes hydrogenated fats, a lack of omega-3 essential fats, high glycemic carbohydrates in the diet; smoking; and high levels of daily stress) all are thought to promote chronic inflammation. The stimulus that triggers the defense mechanism of inflammation is eaten, drunk, smoked, or otherwise experienced by millions of people who are unaware of the underlying damage they are causing.
Inflammation may not be detected by a blood test, x-ray, or other diagnostic measurement, but it is still occurring. On a microscopic level, inflammation can be silently and slowly wreaking havoc on your body's weakest link. The good news is that the inflammatory process can be halted and reversed simply by changing your diet and lifestyle.
By following the steps outlined below, you will be providing your system with the best defense against future illness and disease. If you are currently suffering from an inflammatory condition, this is a powerful treatment approach. These foods are also covered in other sections of the book from other points of view.

Trans Fatty Acids

Eliminate all chemically-produced fats (partially hydrogenated fats) from your diet. These fats are found in some margarines, some commercially-packaged foods such as chips, crackers, and cookies (check labels), and in various deep-fried foods such as french fries.

Red Meat and Cheese

Minimize red meat and cheese consumption. When the saturated fat found in these two foods is eaten in excess, inflammation occurs. Substitute egg whites, fish, beans whole grains, nuts, seeds, and lean chicken breasts without the skin.

Fish High in Mercury

Ensure fish you eat is low in mercury and other toxic residues such as dioxins. Purchase wild salmon and refer to cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/seamehg2.html for a listing of mercury levels in fish and seafood as measured by the US Food and Drug Administration between 1990 and 2003. Other better fish choices are the fish from the relatively pristine waters of New Zealand and the southern oceans.

Phytochemicals

Eat foods that are rich in phytochemicals (plant chemicals) that ward off and reverse inflammation. These foods include colorful fruits and vegetables such as berries, broccoli, squash, and sweet potatoes.

Omega-3s

Eat an abundant amount of omega-3 foods such as walnuts, sesame seeds, and ground flaxseeds. In addition, supplement your diet with a minimum of 2 grams of distilled fish oils daily.

Ginger

Ginger offers potent anti-inflammatory effects and can readily be incorporated as a seasoning on food or brewed as tea.

Water

Drink six to eight glasses of fresh, clean water daily. Remember, though inflammation may not be seen or felt, changes may be occurring. Start taking preventive steps now by including anti-inflammatory foods in your daily diet to ensure your body's inflammatory switch is turned "on" only when necessary.

What are the inflammatory foods?

The following foods are considered among the inflammatory foods and can help you in deciding what is best for you to eat. Stay away from pro-inflammatory foods. A simple rule of thumb is to consider the following: If it contains flour, and/or sugar or other sweetener, it will be pro-inflammatory. Sugary, starchy foods are poor choices and will not only pack on excess pounds; they will add a lot of empty calories.

From the standpoint of inflammation, the foods to avoid would include:

Bagels
Breads, rolls, baked goods
Candy
Cake
Cookies
Cereals (except old fashioned oatmeal and whole grains)
Cornstarch
Corn bread, corn muffins
Corn syrup
Crackers
Croissants
Doughnuts
Egg rolls
Fast food
French Fries
Fruit juice, (choose the fruit instead)
Fried foods
Flour

Granola
Hard cheese (except for feta and grating cheeses, such as Romano and Parmesan)
Honey
Hot dogs
Ice cream, frozen yogurt, Italian ices
Jams, jellies and preserves
Margarine (hydrogenated variety)
Molasses
Muffins
Noodles
Pancakes
Pastry
Pie
Pita bread
Pizza
Pasta

Popcorn
Potatoes
Pudding
Relish
Rice (except wild and brown)
Sherbet
Shortening
Snack foods, including: potato chips, pretzels, corn chips, rice and corn cakes, etc.
Soda
Sugar
Tacos
Tortillas
Waffles

The anti-inflammatory foods include:

Best protein choices (these are also rich in essential fatty acids, which help facilitate weight loss): Blue Hoki, Wild Alaskan salmon, halibut, herring, trout, anchovies and sardines. Seafood choices: Shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, crab, lobster, bass, cod and flounder. Best poultry choices: Skinless chicken breast and skinless turkey breast. Other good sources of protein (choose low fat varieties if weight is a concern): Plain yogurt, high essential fatty acid eggs, plain kefir, cottage cheese and tofu. Grains and legumes: Old fashioned oatmeal (or better yet steel cut oats), whole grains, (Kamut, rye, quinoa, oats, barley. etc.) lentils, chickpeas, dried beans, and buckwheat. Fruits and Vegetables (The Rainbow Foods): Apples, artichokes, arugula, asparagus, avocado, bamboo shoots, bell peppers (green and red), berries (blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries), bok choy, broccoli, broccoli rabe, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cantaloupe, cauliflower, celery, cherries, chives, collards, cucumbers, dark green leafy lettuces (baby greens), eggplant, endive, escarole, fresh lemons, garlic, green beans, grapefruits (red and pink), honeydew melon, hot peppers, kale, leeks, mushrooms, onions, pears, pea pods, radish, rutabaga, scallions, swiss chard, spinach, sprouts, summer squash, tomatoes, turnips, water chestnut and zucchini. Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, hemp seed and flaxseeds. Herbs and spices: Cinnamon sticks, dill, marjoram, parsley, turmeric, ginger root, basil, oregano, thyme, lemon balm, mint, sage and rosemary. Beverages: Green tea, water, Açaí (found in natural food stores), pomegranate juice (unsweetened). Condiments: Extra-virgin olive oil (look for Italian or Spanish high quality), cayenne pepper, salsa.

Regardless of which approach is used we still have the same goal, getter health through good diet. A good diabetic diet is one that helps control blood glucose. If we get other health benefits from combining low glycemic carbohydrates, Omega 3 supplementation, an anti inflammatory diet, a good PCF ratio and any other diet strategy into one cohesive plan out health will improve and our goals will have been achieved.

You may want to couple this with eating for your blood type. Cut and past this into you URL address field:

Your Body pH Affects Everything

Understanding pH Level and Why Many People Have Disease, Including Cancer.

According to the research of Dr. Enderlein, total healing of chronic illness only takes place when and if the blood is restored to a normal, slightly alkaline pH. In case you missed it, let me say it again...
Total healing of chronic illness only takes place when and if the blood is restored to a normal, slightly alkaline pH.

pH: What does it mean? pH is the abbreviation for potential hydrogen. The pH of any solution is the measure of its hydrogen-ion concentration. The higher the pH reading, the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. The lower the pH reading, the more acidic and oxygen deprived the fluid is. The pH range is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being neutral. Anything above 7.0 is alkaline, anything below 7.0 is considered acidic.

The pH scale is from 0 - 14
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 healthy 8 9 10 11 12 13 14

Human blood stays in a very narrow pH range right around ( 7.35 - 7.45 ). Below or above this range means symptoms and disease. If blood pH moves to much below 6.8 or above 7.8, cells stop functioning and the patient dies. The ideal pH for blood is 7.4

A healthy blood pH has acid + alkaline balance almost equal. Actually a healthy body is slightly alkaline measuring approximately 7.4. This ideal blood 7.4 pH measurement means it is just slightly more alkaline than acid.

0 is acid ------ blood pH ( 7.35 - 7.45 ) healthy ------ over 7 to 14 is alkaline

If you have a health problem, most likely you are acidic. If your body's pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Your body pH affects everything. The body has to have a balanced pH like most living things on earth or it does not function correctly. The alkaline level is very important because research has already proven that disease cannot survive in an alkaline state and yet they thrive in an acidic environment.
An acidic balance will: decrease the body's ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it's ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it's ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness.

An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur.

Remember that the pH number is an exponent number of 10; therefore, a small difference in pH translates to a big difference in the number of oxygen or OH-ions. A difference of 1 in a pH value means ten times the difference in the number of OH-ions, a difference of 2 means one hundred times the difference in the number of OH-ions. In other words, blood with a pH value of 7.45 contains 64.9% more oxygen than blood with a pH value of 7.30.

If your body pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Also, mucus on the small intestine can block your body from vitamin and mineral absorption. {This can be cleansed.}

How To Test Your pH Level

Test your pH level: If you are sick simply wet a piece of Litmus Paper with your saliva 2 hours after a meal. This will give a reflection of your state of health.
Salivary pH Test: While generally more acidic than blood, salivary pH mirrors the blood ( if not around meals ) and is also a fairly good indicator of health. It tells us what the body retains. Salivary pH is a fair indicator of the health of the extracellular fluids and their alkaline mineral reserves.
Optimal pH for saliva is 6.4 to 6.8. Spit upon arising before anything is put into the mouth. A reading lower than 6.4 is indicative of insufficient alkaline reserves. After eating, the saliva pH should rise to 7.8 or higher. Unless this occurs, the body has alkaline mineral deficiencies (mainly Calcium and Magnesium ) and will not assimilate food very well. To deviate from ideal salivary pH for an extended time invites illness.
Acidosis, an extended time in the acid pH state, can result in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, lupus, tuberculosis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, most cancers and many more. If salivary pH stays too low, the diet should focus on fruit, vegetables and mineral water as well as remove strong acidifiers such as sodas, whole wheat and red meat.
Urinary pH Test: The pH of the urine indicates how the body is working to maintain the proper pH of the blood. The urine reveals the alkaline building (anabolic) and acid tearing down (catabolic) cycles. The pH of urine indicates the efforts of the body via the kidneys, adrenals, lungs and gonads to regulate pH through the buffer salts and hormones. Urine can provide a fairly accurate picture of body chemistry, because the kidneys filter out the buffer salts of pH regulation and provide values based on what the body is eliminating. Urine pH can vary from around 4.5 to 9.0 for its extremes, but the ideal range is 5.8 to 6.8.
Foods considered to be alkaline-forming and thus helpful to people with consistently acid pH include: almonds, aloe vera, apples, apricots, bee pollen, buckwheat, cabbage, cantaloupe, celery, carrots, cucumbers, dairy products except hard cheese, dates, dulse, poached eggs, figs, grapefruit, honey, lettuce, millet, parsley, raisins, peaches, fresh red potatoes, pineapple, soy products, sprouted seeds, cooked spinach, turnip tops, wakame miso soup, azuki beans, rice, mineral water.
People who remain too acid often display symptoms such as: anxiety, diarrhea, dilated pupils, extroverted behavior, fatigue in early morning, headaches, hyperactivity, hypersexuality, insomnia, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, restless legs, shortness of breath, strong appetite, high blood pressure, warm dry hands and feet.
Balancing the pH is a major step toward well-being and greater health. Acidosis (overly acidic body) is the primary indicator of Calcium Deficiency Disease. Scientists have discovered that the body fluids of healthy people are alkaline (high pH) whereas the body fluids of sick people are acidic (low pH). An acidic body is a sickness magnet. What you eat and drink will impact where your body's pH level falls. As nutritional support: coral calcium, fresh vegetable juices, alkaline forming foods and drinking high pH alkaline water can help balance your body pH.

Alkalinity Body - pH Support High pH Alkaline Water - Fresh Vegetable Juices - Coral Calcium - Alkaline Forming Foods

1. How to drink water for MAXIMUM effectiveness: Drink ½ your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Example: 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily. Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses you will need to drink, daily. Use ¼ tsp. of Sea salt ( celtic sea salt being the highest in mineral content ) as seaoning on your food for every quart of water you drink. As long as you drink the water, you can use the salt. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. These are diuretics and will dehydrate you. Every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you.
The Minimum Recommendations For Water: ( Use Sea salt same as above ) Drink a minimum of 64 ounces ( about 2 liters ) of water every day. I know this is easier said than done. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink - you'll likely never get this much down. Instead, keep filled water bottles at your desk, in your car, by your bed, and near your favorite chair as a reminder.
2. Fresh Vegetable Juices: One of the best ways to raise body pH is making sure that adequate minerals, particularly calcium are present. In general, green vegetables are high in calcium. Kale, broccoli, and collard greens are good sources of calcium. As nutritional support, your best choice is a combination of water and fresh vegetable juices, one quart of each daily. ( Buy a juicer and start juicing.) \
[ If you have congestive heart failure or kidney disease, or if you are taking diuretics, talk to your doctor before increasing your water and/or juice intake.]
3. Coral Calcium has a pH of 10-12 which is extremely high on the alkalinizing side. This means coral calcium will help offset the acid / alkaline ratio within your acidic body, thereby will help return your body to the normal slightly alkaline level. Calcium does not cure disease. As nutritional support, it simply helps keep the pH level of our body fluids in sync so the body fights disease naturally, like it was meant to. Suggested Use: See Chart, below.
4. To maintain health, the diet should consist of 60% alkaline forming foods and 40% acid forming foods. To restore health, the diet should consist of 80% alkaline forming foods and 20% acid forming foods. Balance is Key!!!

Coral Calcium (1100 mg capsules)

WARNING: IF YOU ARE DRINKING DIET SODAS WHICH CONTAIN ASPARTAME OR USING SUGAR-FREE PRODUCTS - Diet sodas, foods labeled as "sugarless" "sugar free" "diet foods" "low calorie" and the like - You had better be careful and read the label to see if they contain ASPARTAME. Please check labels carefully Aspartame is poison and extremely acid forming. Take the 60 day aspartame test. Give up all aspartame for 60 days and note the improvements in your health. Check it out... Do internet search on "aspartame and/or diet cola". [ note in Australia ( and UK ) who just have numbers on things - not names - Aspartame is 951 ]

This forth article is from Cedars.Sinai.ed. These last two articles will mention the drugs that are prescribed for lowering the levels of fat in the blood. Note however that they stress lifestyle and diet and certainly prefer that a person be able to discipline themselves to make the changes. It is wonderful to see how Western medicine is moving this direction.

High Cholesterol

The body needs two major kinds of fats in the bloodstream to operate well: cholesterol and triglycerides. They provide energy, protect the body from cold and help avoid injury. Fats and protein form lipoproteins, which travel throughout the bloodstream. High levels of fats, especially cholesterol, moving in the blood can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
There are two kinds of cholesterol. One is low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is known as the "bad" cholesterol because it increases the risk of heart attack. Ideally, it should be less than 130mg/dl. The other is high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the "good" cholesterol. It lowers heart attack risk. It should be both above 40mg/dl and more than 25% of your total cholesterol.
An ideal total cholesterol level ranges from 140 to 200mg/dl. When it reaches 300, the risk of having a heart attack more than doubles.

Symptoms of High Cholesterol

There are no symptoms of high cholesterol unless the condition is severe. In such cases, fat deposits can form in tendons and skin or even cause severe stomach pain due to an enlarged liver or spleen.

Causes of High Cholesterol and Risk Factors

Some forms of high cholesterol are genetic. Others are a result of diet and lifestyle.

Diagnosis of High Cholesterol

A blood test is used to measure cholesterol levels. The readings will be more accurate when the patient has not eaten anything for at least 12 hours.

Treatment of High Cholesterol

The best way to get the body's cholesterol to normal levels is to make lifestyle changes:
Reduce the cholesterol and saturated fat in the diet
Increase fruits and vegetable servings to five to nine daily
Take in more water-soluble fiber, such as is in fruits, vegetables, legumes, oatmeal and oat bran
Exercise regularly
Reach an ideal weight
Stop smoking
Drink a small amount of alcohol daily (no more than two drinks)
If these measures do not lower cholesterol, a lipid-lowering drug may be prescribed.

Triglycerides: Why do they matter?

Triglycerides are an important measure of heart health. Here's why triglycerides matter — and what to do if your triglycerides are too high.
You know your body mass index (BMI) is a little high. You're also keeping an eye on your blood pressure and cholesterol level. Now your doctor suggests lowering your triglycerides, too. If you didn't even realize you had triglycerides, take heart. The same lifestyle choices that promote overall health can help lower your triglycerides, too.

What are triglycerides?

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides. The triglycerides are stored in your fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals. If you regularly eat more calories than you burn, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia).
What's the difference between triglycerides and cholesterol?
Triglycerides and cholesterol are separate types of fat that circulate in your blood. Triglycerides provide your body with energy, and cholesterol is used to build cells and certain hormones. Since triglycerides and cholesterol can't dissolve in blood, they circulate throughout your body with the help of protein packages called lipoproteins.

After reading through the GoChi website, I googled "lycium barbarum polysaccharides" and found this very interesting report. It will give you an idea of the great information on superfoods available on the net:
Lyceum Barbarum is a Chinese indigenous plant, and belongs to the
family Solanaceae (nightshade). Its common name is matrimony vine.
Lyceum Barbarum is also known as wolfberries, Lycium halimifolium, and
Lycium vulgare. They are similar to Goji berries.

Wolfberries
“Oriental, or Chinese, Wolfberries (Lyceum Barbarum), similar to Goji
Berries from Tibet, grow in the Ningxia Province of northwestern China
(inner Mongolia). Because of their extraordinary nutrient value, rich
red color, and pleasant, full-bodied taste, the Chinese have been
growing this alkaline fruit for thousands of years. To preserve the
fruit, it is naturally dried and similar to a dry raisin in texture.
Chinese Wolfberries have played a role in Chinese medicine for
thousands of years.”

“Here is a short list of other health promoting compounds found in
Lycium Barbarum:
Beta Sitosterol: An anti-inflammatory agent found to lower
cholesterol, and used to treat sexual impotence and prostrate
enlargement.
Zeaxanthin and Lutine: Valued for their role in protecting the eyes.
Betaine: Used by the liver to produce Choline which assists
detoxification reactions in the liver.

Betaine is known to protect DNA, enhance memory, promote muscle growth
and protects us from fatty liver disease.
Cyperone: A sesquiterpene used in treatment of cervical cancer. It is
also known to benefit heart and blood pressure problems as well as
menstruation problems.
Solavetivone: A powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent.
Physalin: A natural compound that boosts the immune system. Found to
be effective in treating leukaemia, hepatitis B and cancer.

A laboratory procedure was recently developed to measure the amount of
antioxidants the foods we eat contain. The procedure known as ORAC
(Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) was developed by Dr. Guohua Cao
at USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University,
USA. ORAC is one of the most sensitive and reliable methods for
measuring the ability of antioxidants to absorb free radicals. It is
the only test to combine both time and degree of inhibition of free
radicals.

According to Tufts University, the average person needs approximately
3,000 to 5,000 ORAC units per day to have a significant impact on
plasma and tissue antioxidant capacity. Three servings of fruits and
vegetables per day provide approximately 1200 ORAC units. This means
the average person is short by up to 3800 ORAC units each day,
depending on the fruits and vegetables they are choosing and their
body's requirements. To make up the difference, experts recommend
supplementing our diet with high ORAC foods to become and stay healthy
and slow down the aging process caused by free radical damage.

Lycium Barbarum was rated the food with the highest antioxidant
ability coming in at an amazing 3,472 ORAC units per fluid oz. Some of
the other notable mentions are vitamin E oil at 3,309, pomegranates at
3,037, blueberries 2,400, raspberries 1,220.

Furthermore, wolfberries have been found to have extremely high levels
of immune-stimulating polysaccharides. What are polysaccharides?
Polysaccharides are very large, long-chain sugar molecules that are
nourishment for macrophages (large white blood cells) in the gut wall.
The macrophages are then transported to other immune cells, setting
off a chain of defensive events in our bodies.”
http://www.emaxhealth.com/6/567.html

Several years ago German researchers isolated polysaccharides from
Echinacea purpurea (often used in medicinal formulations) and mixed
them with macrophages in test tubes. They found that the
polysaccharides profoundly activated the macrophages, stimulating them
to effectively kill tumour cells! Also it was found macrophages
increased their production of interleukin, a chemical which spurs the
immune system to greater activity, and the polysaccharides also
enhanced the activity of B lymphocytes, immune-system cells which
fight bacterial infections.”

I have found countless websites (many of which were unsavory) that
refer to the Beijiing Nutrition Research Institute study, but nowhere
have I found The actual study results.
“In 1988, the Beijing Nutrition Research Institute conducted detailed
chemical analysis and nutritional composition studies of the dried
Wolfberry fruit. What they discovered was stunning. The Wolfberry
contain over 18 amino acids (that is six times higher in proportion
than bee pollen), 21 trace minerals, more beta carotene than carrots
and an astonishing 500 times more vitamin C by weight than oranges. It
is also packed with vitamin B1, vitamin B6, vitamin B6 and vitamin E.”
“Another clinical experiment by the Ningxia Institute (Register Number
879306, October 1982 to May 1985) studied the effects of Wolfberry on
the immune, physiological and biochemical indexes of the blood of aged
volunteers. The results were amazing, indicating that the Wolfberry
caused the blood of older people to noticeably revert to a younger
state.
Can the Wolfberry Boost Immune Function?

According to a report of the State Scientific and Technological
Commission of China, the Wolfberry contains compounds known as Lycium
polysaccharides, which appeared to be highly effective in promoting
immunity. These results were validated in a number of clinical trials.

In one study on a a group of cancer patients, the Wolfberry triggered
an increase in both lymphocyte transformation rate and white blood
cell count (measures of immune function). Unhealthy levels of titer of
serum antibodies have long been associated with Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome (also known as Epstein Bar). Does this mean that Wolfberry
could be used as a weapon against Epstein Bar? The possibilities are
intriguing.

In another study, consumption of Wolfberry lead to a strengthening of
immunoglobulin A levels (an index of Immune function). Because the
declining immunoglobulin A is one of the signs of aging, an increase
in these levels suggests that the Wolfberry may enable injured DNA to
their repair itself and ward off tissue degeneration.

Is the Wolfberry a Powerful Antioxidant?

As we grow older, the levels of lipid peroxide in our blood increase,
while levels of health protecting antioxidants, like super oxide the
Dismutase (SOD), decrease. In a clinical study of people who consumed
doses of Wolfberry, SOD in the blood increased by a remarkable 40%
while hemoglobin increased by 12%. Even better, lipid peroxide levels
dropped by a whopping 65%.

Does the Wolfberry Protect Eyesight?

A test was conducted on the effects of Wolfberry on eyesight. 27
people were tested and showed the a dramatic improvement in both dark
adaptation and vitamin A and carotene content of their serum (measures
over eyesight acuity).”

What's considered normal?

A simple blood test can reveal whether your triglycerides fall into a healthy range.
Normal — Less than 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL)
Borderline high — 150 to 199 mg/dL
High — 200 to 499 mg/dL
Very high — 500 mg/dL or above
Why do high triglycerides matter?
Although the exact mechanism is unclear, high triglycerides may contribute to hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) or thickening of the artery walls — which increases the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart disease.
High triglycerides often accompany other conditions known to increase the risk of heart disease and stroke as well, including obesity and metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes too much fat around the waist, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high blood sugar and abnormal cholesterol levels.
Sometimes high triglycerides are a sign of poorly controlled diabetes, low levels of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism), liver or kidney disease, or the use of certain medications. High triglycerides can also result from rare genetic conditions.

What's the best way to lower triglycerides?

Healthy lifestyle choices are key.
Lose excess pounds. If you're overweight, losing the excess pounds can help lower your triglycerides. Motivate yourself by focusing on the benefits of losing weight, such as more energy and improved health.
Consume fewer calories. Remember that excess calories are converted to triglycerides and stored as fat. Reducing your calories will reduce triglycerides.
Avoid sugary foods. Simple carbohydrates, such as sugar, can cause a sudden increase in insulin production. This can increase triglycerides.
Limit your cholesterol intake. Aim for no more than 300 milligrams of cholesterol a day — or less than 200 milligrams if you have heart disease. Avoid the most concentrated sources of cholesterol, including organ meats, egg yolks and whole milk products.
Choose healthier fats. Avoid saturated fat and instead choose healthier monounsaturated fat, found in olive, peanut and canola oils. In addition, eat fish high in omega-3 fatty acids — such as mackerel and salmon — instead of red meat.
Avoid alcohol. Alcohol is high in calories and sugar and has a particularly potent effect on triglycerides. Even small amounts of alcohol can promote high triglyceride levels.
Exercise regularly. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most or all days of the week. Regular exercise can boost "good" cholesterol while lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides. Take a brisk daily walk, swim laps or join an exercise group.
It's also important to control diabetes and high blood pressure, if you have those conditions.

What about medication?

If healthy lifestyle changes aren't enough to control high triglycerides, your doctor may recommend medication. Cholesterol medications known as fibrates (such as fenofibrate or gemfibrozil) and nicotinic acids (such as niacin) are often effective for lowering triglycerides. If you also have low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or "good" cholesterol or high low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or "bad" cholesterol, your doctor may prescribe cholesterol-lowering statins or a combination of a statin and a fibrate or nicotinic acid.
If your doctor prescribes medication to lower your triglycerides, take the medication as prescribed. And remember the significance of the healthy lifestyle changes you've made. Drug therapy can help — but lifestyle matters, too.
